Presents For Pets

The holidays are right around the corner and like all good pet owners we are racking our brains, trying to find the perfect gift for our four legged friends. After all, we need to say thank you to them for being our faithful and loyal companion during the year. In order to save you some time, I have decided to do a column on the best new cat and dog toys this season!

This year many companies have paid particular attention to Hanukkah this year and have come up with some unique gifts for Jewish Pets. For instance, for only $18.00, dog owners can give their pooch a touch of class and elegance with a necklace made of white pearls with blue beads and a silver and blue chai in the center; or for a mere $12.00 there is the fully lines, colorful, start dog coat, featuring a colorful star of David on a blue background.

Or, if you would prefer, there is a reversible Shabbat dog coat with one side a white background with the Shabbat design, and the other side sporting a royal blue background with the Shabbat design.

There are toys too! The Dreidel for dogs chew toy is approximately seven inches tall and price at $6.75. Dogs also love the big, soft nine inch kosher bone squeaky toy and of course every Jewish dog wants to play fetch with the blue and white star of David tennis ball. Or you could order Kosher Pet’s Hanukkah dog treats, complete with extra virgin olive oil at only $9.00.

Jewish cats are featured this holiday season too! There is the Catnip Dreidel, the lox fish cat toy and the Trayf Mouse, all priced at $4.25 each and they come with a bell to jingle and a string. The Trayf Mouse can be pulled around to encourage interactional play between cat and human. All of these above gifts can be found at www.nvo.com.

For those of you putting up the traditional Christmas tree, there are now holiday lights that your dog can play with safely. The candy cane smelling Orbee-Tuff Bulbs look like Christmas tree lights but are really dog toys into which you can drop treats. Red, green or white (the white is glow in the dark), they sell for $9.95 at www.planetdog.com.

You can let your canines enjoy turkey safely by getting them the hard rubber Turkey Chew, which is safe and yummy and can house some peanut butter inside. Anywhere from $9.00 to $15.00 at www.dogmt.com.

Perhaps your dog would enjoy the Combat Squeaker dog bone from the Bamboo Company, made specifically for small dogs and puppies. It comes in a two pack set with a holiday snowflake theme, for only $4.99. Last and most expensive in the toy department, is the cheerful little frog toy that sings, we wish you a merry Christmas, when squeezed for $13.50. And if you missed last year’s duck toy, that’s still available too, on www.barkerandmeowsky.com.

Barker and Meowsky also offer holiday cat toys. How about a reindeer with a red nose, black antlers and a refillable catnip pouch – a steal at only $5.50. Jingle bell collars and Santa hats make the holidays bright (for you, not the cats). I strongly recommend cat videos for only cats (even my multiple cat house loves to watch them) to entertain your felines while you are out and about. $9.99 to $14.99 at www.amazon.com. Always remember that catnip, furry little mice and crinkle balls will be strong favorites on the gift list.

For those pampered pets who like bling, Phoebe’s Phasions include red and white beads with a snowman charm ($16), cracked crystal bead necklace with red and green snowball beads ($20), and crystal collars for both cats and dogs (www.phoebesphasions.com). Holiday pet gift packs are available, including Merry Berry shampoo and conditioner and Cool Yule Freshener and detangler. Environmentally safe and DEA free, products sell for $11.99 at www.pet-living.com.

There are hats and boots for the pets up North for a low cost of $6 at www.pawsdogboots.com, and for the holiday dinner entrée, pick up some Food Toppers 100 percent natural freeze dried turkey with cranberries, country pot pie or pure chicken breast flavors. $14.99 for a four ounce bag (which rehydrates to about a pound of fresh food by simply adding water), found at www.realfoodtoppers.com.

So have fun this year, finding some of these unusual treats for your special friend this holiday season. They are certainly worth it!
