MEAGAN'S AWARD
It isn't easy being part of an animal rescue organization. We have spent the last dozen years being woken up at 6:00 a.m., never finishing dinner, leaving the house in the middle of a holiday dinner. My children always complained about those absences. Imagine my surprise to find out my youngest daughter Allison had nominated Helping Paws for Meagan's award!
Meagan's award is given by an organization who specializes in finding homes for Senior dogs. They work very hard and also try to recognize other rescue organizations who dedicate their lives to the animals. Click here to find out more about the people who have honored Helping Paws with this award.
MILO AND STAR GO TO SCHOOL.
Milo spent a good part of his life visiting schools and teaching children about how important it was to take good care of your pets and about adopting from your local shelter. One of our very first school visits was Milo's invitation to The Charter Day School in Norwich, Connecticut, in the year 2002. Milo brought his little friend Star and also had to bring Rene with him because he didn't drive.
The children were great and they had loads of questions for Rene and lots of pets for Milo and Star. They also had a food drive and donated lots of food for the strays that our volunteers care for. This was something that Milo loved to do and in the last six years he visited many schools and Girl Scout Troops and collected food for his homeless friends.
Milo loved going to schools and he getting all the attention the children gave him. Star liked it too, and she often showed the children that being non-hearing is not necessarily a handicap. After all she was one of the few cats we have ever had that was not afraid of the vacuum cleaner!
